Kellie’s card idea starts with a 6″x4″ cut-apart from Simple Stories. She paired it with matching cardstock and Doodlebug Puffy Hearts. Her card uses an A2 size card base and fits in an A2 envelope (4.25″x5.5″).

Almost any 6″x4″ cut apart will work for a horizontal easel card. We love this collection from Photo Play!

By definition, an easel card stands up for display yet folds flat for mailing. You can make easel cards in a both vertical and horizontal format — the creative possibilities are endless! All of us at Memory Bound love easel cards. To see more ideas, just type “easel card” in the search bar right here on our blog.

The first step in making a horizontal easel card is easy: Fold your card base in half, then score the front at 2 1/8″ (or fold it in half). Fold to create a “mountain” on the card front and burnish with a bone folder.

Next, Kellie cut a 5.5″x4.25″ piece of Raspberry Cardstock. She trimmed her 6″x4″ cut apart to 5.25″x4″ to fit nicely on the cardstock with a border showing all the way around. Love that pop of pink with the black!

Next, Kellie attached her card front to the front side of the easel/mountain. To make this easy, just put your adhesive on the front of the mountain and stick your card front to it, lining up the bottom edges. As you can see from this photo, your card front will stick up past the top of the easel/mountain.

To dress up the base of the card, Kellie cut and adhered a 2″ strip of patterned paper.

To make the easel card stand up, you’ll need some type of element attached with foam dots or tape which we refer to as the “stopper”. In this case, Kellie cut out a text strip from a cut-apart from the same Simple Stories paper then matted it with Raspberry cardstock before adding foam dots to the back. Where you attach this piece will govern how “straight” your easel card will stand so Kellie attached hers along the top edge of the patterned paper.

To fancy up the card front, Katie assisted Kellie by adding details with her white POSCA pen. It’s amazing how those little dots and lines make the card front come to life! Kellie added a few Doodlebug Puffy Hearts for added dimension and color. Super cute!

But wait…there’s more! We also have a wonderful two-page layout kit ($14.99) designed by Katie just for Mother’s Day. It’s perfect for saving memories from your Mother’s Day activities.
