Muslin Bag Stamping with Teresa

24 October 2023
Welcome back, crafty friends!

Teresa joined our morning video yesterday with the cutest project, perfect for the upcoming holidays: Stamped Muslin Bags! She used her MISTI Stamping Tool, favorite stamps, and Archival Ink to create these adorable gift bags. They’re super-easy and make a wonderful gift presentation!

Click HERE to watch the video from Monday, October 23, 2023.

Click HERE for links to the products Teresa shared. Teresa’s bags are 8×8 ($2.59) and 8×12 ($2.99). We now carry several additional sizes. Click HERE to see them all!

When stamping on muslin bags, Teresa recommends Archival Ink for the best impression. We carry the small inkpads by Tim Holtz (they fit in the Mini Archival Storage Tin), and also the full-size ink pads by Ranger.

First, if you’re not familiar with the MISTI, it’s a very handy tool which allows you to stamp your images more than once to get a perfect impression. The MISTI comes in three sizes and is a favorite tool of staff and customers alike! Click HERE to see our MISTI category. When you watch the video, you’ll see Teresa using the Standard Size MISTI to stamp on her muslin bags.

So let’s take a look at the sweet bags Teresa created for the holidays! Supplies are linked at the top of this post.

This first bag at the left features the Holiday Postmarks and Jolly Holiday stamp sets. Notice how Teresa stamped all the images in green except for Santa. By stamping him in red, Santa really stands out! Teresa also used a fun technique we call “Group Stamping” for this bag, in which smaller stamps are clustered for a subway-art type effect. Learn more about this technique with Teresa HERE!

This next bag features images from the same Jolly Holiday set stamped in red. To make the greeting stand out, Teresa chose black. I love how she used gold for the stars for a festive touch!

Teresa used her favorite fall stamp set, Sketchy Leaves, to create these beautiful bags!

In her demo, she showed us how the MISTI makes it easy it is to apply more than one color of ink to the stamp to create a shaded look around the edges. After stamping her leaves, she stamped Happy Fall (from The Scarecrow stamp set) to visually ground the images. Teresa chose three beautiful fall colors (plus a brown ink for edging) and tipped the outside stamps to point toward the sentiment.

After stamping with Archival Inks, Teresa always takes a moment to clean her stamps with a Microfiber Cloth and Archival Ink Cleaner. This will ensure that there is no color residue on them for the next time!

Teresa created this bag with similar colors and showed us how to repeat stamp with her MISTI and a brown Archival Ink to create a shaded look around the edges of each leaf. It’s a little detail that adds depth and interest to your bag!

Teresa left an open space at the top right to stamp a fall greeting. Wouldn’t this be the sweetest gift presentation? I can envision the bag filled with baked goods for Thanksgiving or as a hostess gift.

Teresa used her Christmas stamps and the Group Stamping idea to create a sweet bag featuring candy sticks. I think it would be fun to make bags like this to use from year to year for a special gift from Santa!

Teresa chose non-traditional colors for this sweet bag, giving it a whimsical look! You can choose any color of Archival Ink to match your holiday decor.

Wow, Teresa inspired us all with her Stamped Muslin Bags! They are so easy to make and look absolutely beautiful. Now is the perfect time to make your bags for the upcoming holiday season!
